THEMATIC PANEL: Challenges of International Development Cooperation & Humanitarian Aid in Times of Geopolitical Uncertainty
As part of the Jean Monnet Module EU-GlobalAct and the FIŠ-FUDŠ Winter Camp, a panel discussion titled “Challenges of International Development Cooperation (ODA) and Humanitarian Aid in Current Geopolitical Circumstances” took place on March 19, 2025.
After an introductory presentation of the EU-GlobalAct module implementation by Dr. Janja Mikulan and Asst. Nejc Gajšek, the floor was opened for a thought-provoking discussion with representatives from the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia (MZEZ).
🗣️ Edvin Skrt, Director General of the Directorate for Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid at MZEZ, presented the key concepts and trends of Official Development Assistance (ODA). He addressed pressing challenges such as the lack of interest in equitable global development, divergent development approaches, shifting geopolitical dynamics (including a decline in ODA from major donors), and the growing role of new donors. 💼🌍📉
🗣️ Dr. Eva Nastav, Head of the Sector for the Implementation of International Development Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid (MZEZ), focused on Slovenia’s specific challenges, including fulfilling commitments, geographic dispersion of aid, measuring impact, public opinion, and raising public awareness and support. 📊📌🇸🇮
🙏 We sincerely thank both outstanding speakers for offering valuable insights in a time of great global uncertainty and multiple crises, and for encouraging reflection on possible solutions for the future. 💬🌱🔍
