12 February – International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism

February 2026

On today’s International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism, we highlight the importance of preventive, community-oriented, and long-term approaches that address the root causes of radicalization – from social inequalities and exclusion to trauma and the erosion of trust in institutions. Recent international reports clearly emphasize that preventing violent extremism is a key component of contemporary security and social resilience.

This is also a field in which Dr Janja Mikulan is actively engaged through her research and teaching, particularly as the holder of the ARIS postdoctoral project Trauma Perspective on Vulnerability to Radicalization. In the upcoming second semester, she will also teach on this topic within the course Global Security at our faculty and at the Faculty of Information Studies (FIŠ).

More engaging content on radicalization, trauma, and extremism will follow, so we invite you to stay connected with us.

Prevention begins with understanding.
