Understanding Global Security Through Real-World Insights
May 2025
As part of the course Global Security (lecturer: Dr. Janja Mikulan), which runs under the EU-GlobalAct module, we had the privilege of hosting inspiring guest speakers during the spring semester who helped students better understand the complex security challenges of today’s world. 🎓🌐
One of the guests was Katarina Cvikl Balić from ITF – Enhancing Human Security, who primarily works in Syria and Iraq. Since its founding, ITF has been dedicated to promoting security and recovery in countries affected by armed conflict. 🕊️🛠️
Their current projects include:
🧨 Mine action in Ukraine and Bosnia and Herzegovina,
🏥 Support for the MDC Polyclinic in Afghanistan,
🧠 Assistance in Gaza and the West Bank in the fields of rehabilitation and mental health,
🤝 Support for communities in Syria, and more.
🙏 A heartfelt thank you to our guest for sharing the important and inspiring work ITF is doing to strengthen human security and build community resilience in some of the world’s most vulnerable regions. 🌱💪
