Inspirational Visit to the Muslim Cultural Center
December 2024
As part of the Challenges of Globalization course—now in its second year under the EU-GlobalAct module (led by Dr. Janja Mikulan)—students once again had the opportunity to visit the Muslim Cultural Center (MKC) in Ljubljana.
Such visits are of immense importance, not only because understanding different religions and cultures is essential for future intercultural managers, but also in light of the growing societal polarization, intolerance, and extremism both at home and abroad.
We extend our sincere gratitude to the MKC staff for their warm welcome and excellent guidance!
To give you a glimpse of this inspiring experience, here are some reflections from our students:
🕌 “During the visit, I was impressed by the center’s organization and the friendliness of the staff, who enthusiastically shared information about Islam, its traditions, and the life of the Muslim community in Slovenia. The prayer hall is simple yet rich, evoking a deep sense of peace and spirituality. Additionally, the center is designed as an open space for all, regardless of religious background, further emphasizing its mission of connection.” (L.P.)
🌍 “This openness is crucial, as it helps reduce mistrust towards the Muslim community, break stereotypes, and foster greater mutual understanding and respect among different nations and cultures.” (M.S.)
🕌 “The center is not just a religious site but also a cultural space that encourages intercultural dialogue, understanding, and cooperation among diverse communities. It is a remarkable contribution to Slovenian society. I am glad that political will in Slovenia enabled the realization of such an important and symbolic project that enhances our sense of connectedness and enriches our community.” (A.G.)
🏛️ “When you step into the Muslim Cultural Center, you immediately sense that it is not just a place of worship but also a space where cultural and social elements intertwine. I was particularly captivated by the openness of the space, which beautifully highlights its architectural design. The interior of the mosque enchants with its simplicity and deep spiritual connection.” (S.K.)
💡 “I was deeply moved by the thoughtful decision to organize this visit. It was not just about seeing the Muslim Cultural Center but about breaking down barriers and fostering understanding.” (N.G.)
🙏 “Prayer is also central to Islam, practiced multiple times a day. It offers a moment to step away from the chaos around us, to pause, reflect, and be present. I am grateful for today’s experience and for the opportunity to deepen our understanding of Islam. With such an insightful guide, we could even dream a little about how beautiful the world would be if we were all as tolerant and understanding of one another.” (S.Ž.)
